my hello kitty 35th birthday bonanza bash

I love my birthday. I love everything about it. The anticipation, the monthly check-ins beginning in January to remind folks about the big day, and finally, the celebration.

And that's just for the yearly birthdays. The ones that end in 5 or 0? Watch out -- those are the big ones! For my 25th, I hired a limo and took all my friends around San Diego for a pub crawl, culminating in a long night of karaoke and laughs at our local dive bar. For my 30th, I threw myself (yes, you read that right) a SpongeBob SquarePants themed party. And why not?

Most girls freak out when they hit 30. Whether it's because they're single, or don't have kids, or didn't get that PhD they wanted. Who knows. I was married, and happy, and ready to blow 30 out of the water.

So SpongeBob it was.

And here comes 35. Usually I start the countdown on January 20 (5 months to go, everyone!). With the cancer, my clock was off a bit. No worries, though, because once we had the free and clear diagnosis, I went into full party-planning mode. The result?

My Hello Kitty 35th Birthday Bonanza Bash. Starting the Sunday before my birthday with a nice little party down at DeAnza Cove on Mission Bay, and culminating with a weekend getaway in Orange County and LA.
